Heaphy Track

This is an advanced mountain bike track and is open to bikes 1 May to 30 November. The track traverses 78.4km through tussock downs, moonscape rock formations, lush forests and nikau palms down to the West Coast. This is Kiwi and Takahe country and the absence of helicopter flights over the park add to the remoteness. The track has been upgraded significantly to handle mountain bikes and flows beautifully through the changing landscapes. Best over 2 or 3 days on bike there are many hut options. Huts are not serviced with cooking equipment so this is carried. Bikes can be fit with specific racks to carry gear and ensure that you remain comfortable for the days ride.
